I told you about the name, but I forgot
to mention in my first blog post why I am writing this
blog. It is actually part of an assignment for a E-marketing class that I probably
never would have needed up doing. I actually started out as a Business
Management Major as postsecondary student at the associate level. I was
introduced to business through an assignment learning about different careers
at my high and I knew for a fact, I
didn’t want to go into to medical field like some of my family so I picked
business(no blood, guts, and other
nastiness). I am so grateful that a marketing
class was a requirement for Business Management Program because it was love at
first textbook. What impressed me about marketing in that class was the thought that nonprofits,
could use this information, little did I know I would end up working for
nonprofit while in school which would fueled
my interest to seeking more knowledge to strengthen my position as a reliable source of information and my confidence
to actually put that knowledge to use, because while I was yet learning, I met the director of a nonprofit call JewishHeritage(which does a lot of things,
cooking classes, Hebrew classes DVDs and so on).
I told him what I was studying, in conversation,
not expecting work at that time, in fact I think I was still on the fence about
adding Marketing to me degrees and told him I was thinking about it because it
is “fun” Anyway, he passed a few ideas to me for input, one of which was about
a name for a book. Because of that required marketing class, I knew it was very
important to reflect on every detail of one’s
product plan, and was able to explain it isn’t just a matter of the name sounding good-marketing
is a bit complicated than that. Brand loyalty comes from attaching the name to
the product and you must ask what you want people to think of when they hear
the name (fun, adventure, serious etc…) because the product position has to be
clear in the audience’s mind to promote it accordingly, never mind needing to
know who those are in the first place.
Afterward,
I end up doing a lot of “random” stuff, (as could be expected in a small
nonprofit), giving marketing advice, copy writing, etc… here and there and
figured even things you wouldn’t think as obviously marketing, such as being an
online teacher’s assistant, marketing can play a role, because you should aim
to build relationships with students so they want to come back and think well
of the program. For planning a new online magazine you can and should use
marketing skills could to make ensure that the content matches the audiences’
interests and affiliate partners match the brand’s image as well. I wanted to
learn more about marketing, which is why I’m in Social Media Marketing class, for
which I made this blog, and may share more of what I figure out about marketing
as I go along.
Great back story as to the why of your blog and the name. I find it interesting the different paths that we are all on but at some point will cross on another. Very nicely done. Your blog has a nice clean feel to it that is inviting and very well laid out.
